Tami Erickson. End Table. January 29th , 2018.
End tables are often an afterthought in a living room or great room. Often, so much time goes into making decisions about the upholstered pieces, the coffee table, the lamps and the paint, that it becomes an, "oh, and we also need some end tables" type of decision. Sad, since these tables can really complete the look of the room and not only give you some much needed storage and stacking areas, but also add character. Thats because they come in so many varieties, styles and sizes. So how do you go about choosing the right table? The first considerations are scale and the space available. An end table shouldnt dominate the space its in. Rather, it should complement the other furnishings, especially those pieces nearest it. Additionally, if you already have a coffee table in place, you want the end tables to be in the same finish and style.
In order to shop from the various styles on the market, you need to know what styles are available. The most common end table styles include nesting, magazine, traditional, transitional, contemporary, arts & crafts, and mission styles. All of these various styles of these come in an array of materials, designs, sizes and price ranges. Thanks to the wide selection offered by the various styles of tables, its very easy to find exactly what your heart desires. Whether you want contemporary end tables made from metal or traditional tables crafted from wood, you are sure to come across many end tables that offer exactly what you are looking for.
Lets start out by saying many can be used for the home are indeed purchased for bar use. If you do a lot of entertaining and theres only a few seats at your home bar, having one or two can provide for a better entertaining environment. However, as I stated earlier, this is not the only reason people purchase to be used in the home. Lets say you have a small breakfast nook and a regular dinette set just wont fit in there. Should you just leave it empty? Of course not! Simply use small table. The smaller diameter used for the home should allow you to fit a pub table and at least two chairs into the small breakfast nook area. Another great place to is on an enclosed deck. An enclosed deck is great for enjoying the outdoor air and tables used for the home offer a wonderful place to sip a cool glass of lemonade or iced tea. It is not uncommon for people to have a few bar stools and pub tables used for the home furnishing their enclosed outdoor rooms.
Smaller end tables arent just for the living room. If you have two end tables, you can repurpose the second one in another room. For example, you can use one as a nightstand in a second bedroom or even the master. You can also convert one into an accent table and place it in a corner of the bedroom or any room in the home. Add some photos or a floral arrangement and youll have a nice addition without having to break up the set permanently. If you have a large bath, you can add a smaller table there as well. Here you can keep reading material or some lotions and other toiletries for guests to use. If your table has drawers, you can keep clippers, Q-tips and other necessities so guests dont have to feel awkward looking through your cabinets in search these items that everyone seems to need, but no one can find. You can even add a little touch of bed and breakfast by putting a folding tent sign that says that these things can be found in the drawer
If glass and metal are more your thing, then you are probably looking for a more contemporary style. Glass with black metal is a little more classic while still remaining contemporary, while glass and silver or gold metal offers a unique flair that adds color and style to any room. Some metal and glass tables even come in sets of three nesting tables. Nesting tables are a contemporary solution to the space problem so many people have. They can be pulled out to provide plenty of table space when it is needed, or they can be nested, one over the other, so that there is less table space and more room to walk around as needed. Another element of style in an end table is plain or fancy. Some of the plainest tables fit more easily into tight corners, although you shouldnt give up hope on a fancy or ornate table if all you have is a tiny space. The wide variety of tables available means you are sure to find anything you are looking for.
