Carey Knowles. End Table. January 29th , 2018.
If you do have small end tables that are open, you may want to consider adding a contrasting linen or lace piece to the top and even have it extend over and down the sides some. This will give your table a bit more bulk without taking up added space. For really small homes, you can eliminate one of the end tables entirely. While its nice to have end tables on both ends for convenience and balance, there is no hard and fast rule requiring this. You may be able to make due with a single table and perhaps add a floor lamp on the other side to add light and even things out visually.
If youve ever been to a friends home that is long on seating and short on table space in the living room or great room, then you know how important coffee and end table sets are. These little beauties not only give you a place to set stuff, like a table lamp and your remotes, but they can also help set the style of your room and really give it personality. Too often, coffee and end table sets are an afterthought. While some people like to buy the pieces individually, usually a coffee table first, then the end tables, you can also purchase them as a matched set.
Space. One of the first things every shopper should do before looking for an end table is measure the amount of space available. This is especially true in cases where you have a couch up against a wall in a space that fits rather tightly. There is no point in seriously considering any end table if it does not fit in the space you have, so be sure to measure carefully before you go shopping. Color. After you know exactly how much space you have to work with, then it is time to consider color. An end table that matches your furniture is always best. These days end tables can be either solid wood or ready to assemble, which is made of a much lighter wood that must be put together. Tables can be metal and glass, or they can be completely wood. The black wrought iron look is always a classic, and when paired with glass, it comes across quite elegant in any space. Also color can come across in the type of wood you choose. Shoppers who are looking for a reddish tint will want to look for a lighter cherry or mahogany wood, while those who want a very light colored wood black should opt for oak.
Coffee and end table sets come in all shapes and sizes as well as styles. This can make shopping for them a bit of an adventure, since there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, to choose from. One of the great things about going with coffee and end table sets is that you dont have to be an experienced designer to make sure they all match or at least complement one another. Usually they are all the same design, just different sizes. If you are a bit of a novice in selecting furnishings, this can be a real godsend. Usually all you have to do is pick a style (transitional, contemporary, modern, rustic, etc.) and then focus on the color of the wood or finish.
Some of the newer designs really redefine the very concept of what a traditional end table is. Some models are double-tiered that look as if a smaller table was placed on a larger table. There are also models that have drop leafs so that they can fit in smaller areas or allow one side to be dropped so it can rest flush with a sofa, love seat or chair. If storage is important, consider going with a drum table instead. These are a little bulkier in appearance, but give you much needed storage, since the table has one large door-ed unit with shelves inside or one of more drawers. These can even really add character to the room as well as offer storage. Drum tables are particularly handy if you like to knit, read or have other hobbies where you like to keep your stuff handy. These can work well in a bedroom too, if you want a different look than the traditional pair of matched nightstands. If space is at a premium, you can go with a single drum table instead, allowing you to have a place to put your lamp and clock while still having lots of storage down below.
