End Table. Wednesday , December 20th , 2017 - 02:12:09 AM
When many people search for sturdy and beautiful pieces of furniture, they dont look to modern day furniture. They instead look to the past and to old pieces like antique end tables. Antique end tables and other pieces of old furniture are becoming more and more popular. Part of the reason may be that many people are starting to appreciate the antique market once again. Shows like Antique Road show have shown that even the simplest antique end tables have a story and a history that they are willing to take with them to a new home. These pieces have a unique life and personality all their own. It comes from where they came form and how they came to be a part of your home.
While homes seem to be larger than ever, many homeowners are in the process of downsizing these days, either because of economic circumstances or simply a desire to live a simpler life. Just because you live in a smaller dwelling doesnt mean that you have to give up the comforts of home youve become so used to. Rather, you may simply need to change some of the furnishings, keeping your favorites and then balancing them with smaller support pieces. Perhaps no example is better than the use of small end tables. Love seats and sofas are big-ticket items and most people will want to take them to the new home. Unfortunately, furniture scaled for a home may look a bit cramped in a smaller home or apartment. This is where small end tables can save the day. You can change the scale of your end tables while still keeping your favorite upholstered furnishings.
Some of the newer designs really redefine the very concept of what a traditional end table is. Some models are double-tiered that look as if a smaller table was placed on a larger table. There are also models that have drop leafs so that they can fit in smaller areas or allow one side to be dropped so it can rest flush with a sofa, love seat or chair. If storage is important, consider going with a drum table instead. These are a little bulkier in appearance, but give you much needed storage, since the table has one large door-ed unit with shelves inside or one of more drawers. These can even really add character to the room as well as offer storage. Drum tables are particularly handy if you like to knit, read or have other hobbies where you like to keep your stuff handy. These can work well in a bedroom too, if you want a different look than the traditional pair of matched nightstands. If space is at a premium, you can go with a single drum table instead, allowing you to have a place to put your lamp and clock while still having lots of storage down below.
